South Padre Island, Texas is a coastal city that’s also the most southern point in the continental United States. The city is located about 100 miles from the Mexican border and it has a population of 74,050 people. The warm weather makes it a great place to escape from cold winters.
The majority of the South Padre Island population follows Christianity with about 55% of residents identifying as Catholic and another 25% identifying as Protestant or other Christian denominations. There are roads and highways leading to South Padre Island from Southern Texas and Eastern Mexico. There is a ferry service that leaves from Port Isabel, TX but it only runs between October and April due to the temperature of the ocean water. Car rental services such as Hertz, Budget, Enterprise, National and Alamo are located on the island in-case visitors do not bring their own vehicles. There are also public transportation options for people who do not drive such as taxis, school buses and the trolley that goes to the Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark.
